Well it's goodbye The Henrik Larsson CSC, Manchester and hello, or Hail Hail, Manchester Neil Lennon CSC. We're not so much disbanding, as joining up with the new club. Given the name, I think it would be fair to say “This isn't the end, this is just the beginning.

Things change and things stay the same.

The recent history of Manchester CSCs began in 1998. Of course there were clubs before, but the recent, continuous, run began in 1998. This was before Sky telly, broadband streams and such new fangled technology. There was no chance of televised games in Ingerlandshire and your best bet of radio coverage was to drive up to the hills and try to pick up Radio Scotland, on medium wave, on the car radio.

So remember 1998, the huns going for ten in a row and two games to play. All we had to do was beat Dunfermline away and the title was ours. How to see the game? Well, the nearest place that could pick up BBC Scotland, was Kendal and all that was needed was a minibus to get us there – and the first bus for many a year was organised. (The second saw us clinch the title though)

From there a meeting was called to set up a CSC. The venue Clynes' Wine Bar, in Hulme. For those of you sniffing at the idea of a “wine bar” don't be fooled. It was as much a wine bar as The Queens Park Cafe is a cafe. The date was perfect – 12 July, so an alternative 12 July event was organised, complete with The James Larkin RFB, from Liverpool.

The rest is history. We started as The Manchester No 1 CSC, but soon morphed into the The Henrik Larsson. Yes, there were a few differences and personality clashes, on the way, but so you learn. Other clubs have existed in parallel, like The Tameside Emerald and The Tommy Burns, but we soldiered on, concentrating on getting supporters to the games as cheaply and efficiently as possible. Our club and our watering can, also made many European journeys, Bordeaux, Lyon, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, and Basle to name a few.

The journey has been and continues to be, a joy. So Cheers Franny and Mike, for all the work and a big thanks to the best CSC driver going – our Christine.

Ever onward, doing it The Celtic Way.
